LISTED & PERIOD BUILDING RESTORATION & JOINERY
Restoration joinery is Col's core trade and by far the majority of his time historically has been spent on traditional timber windows and doors. He has repaired and, with the correct permissions, replaced external joinery on both listed properties and those in conservation areas and has provided detailed specifications for local authority listed building consents. He relishes the challenge of replicating period joinery detailing and has designed and built replica sash windows that incorporate slimline double-glazing and weather seals. Where listed building consent has prohibited this, he has also made and installed bespoke secondary glazing. Unusually, he has also has the skills to apply the same level of detail across multiple trades which means he can also deliver all related building/ plastering and finishing work and so regularly takes on broader internal and external renovation projects in both houses and small businesses, where the only other trade then required is an electrician.
FULL DESIGN & RESTORATION OF OUR OWN SLATE BARN, WEST WALES
A labour of love and 2-year project, this is the barn attached to our semi-derelict farmhouse, both of which have clearly had a long chequered history. With the exception of the electrics, we have renovated it completely by ourselves over a two-year period using traditional building methods and materials, to restore and preserve this little slice of local Welsh history. The dormers and corresponding french doors were designed and made by Colin, with the windows themselves made of reclaimed pitch pine. From a joinery perspective, we also restored the original downstairs 'Pant-y-Deri door' and Justine designed and made etched glazing for that and the 'Sky Door.' We hope the before and after photos speak for themselves and you can see our internal renovation of it here.
